The role of technology in the legal profession is becoming increasingly important by the day. On behalf of and with organisations involved in legal practice, the Legal Management & Technology research group examines how technology can be deployed effectively, responsibly, and in a people-oriented manner. At the heart of this is the interrelationship between people and technology.
Under the title Digitale Vertalingen, the research group is working in a research and education network of knowledge institutions and public-sector organisations on systematically, responsibly, and transparently translating legal norms to digital systems.
More than 150 legal departments in organisations share in the Tech in Legal community what technology they use and how, and for which legal processes. The research group examines and supports the departments.
We research the opportunities for the automated transcription and summarising of hearings and the optimisation of searches for case histories in objections procedures. This is expected to save time and to improve the quality of how such procedures are dealt with.
Mr. Ivar Timmer is a professor in Legal Management & Technology and research coordinator at the Legal Tech Lab, part of the Centre of Expertise Applied Artificial Intelligence. His areas of interest are the (re)design of legal services and processes (legal service design), with a particular focus on technology and AI (legal tech) and legal risk management.
