The research group Child and Youth Social Care helps professionals and their organizations to provide effective support and care to children, adolescents and their parents or guardians. In doing so, we base ourselves on theoretical knowledge and research as well as on the experiential knowledge of professionals and clients. We work closely with organizations for youth aid, youth protection, youth probation and welfare.
For years there have been calls to improve youth care. To do this, it is important that youth professionals constantly acquire new knowledge and skills. 'Doing What Works' is a six-year research programme that aims to embed learning in the workplace. Our goal is to permanently embed workplace learning in daily practice and create a solid implementation infrastructure.
More and more young people in the Netherlands report feeling lonely. This project helps professionals working in education, youth work or youth care to recognize and act on loneliness. In this project professionals work intensively together to develop and test well-founded handles and (e)tools for professionals to strengthen the actions of professionals.
Marc Noom is Professor by special appointment of Forensic Youthcare within the Child and Youth Care research group. As a developmental psychologist, he researches how effective care can be provided to young people who grow up in vulnerable circumstances. And who, in part because of their background, show serious problem behaviour.
Prof. Dr. Leonieke Boendermaker (1961) is a professor in Child and Youth Social Care at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) and professor by special appointment of Implementation Challenges in Youth Care at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Her work focuses on the development, implementation, quality and effectiveness of interventions, with a special focus on residential care and interventions for young people with serious behavioural problems.
Dr. Marc Noom (1966) is a developmental psychologist. He joined the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences as a professor by special appointment in January 2022, researching Forensic Youthcare. He is keen to investigate, in collaboration with field workers, ways of preventing young people from displaying increasingly extreme negative behaviour.
