Summerschool 3D Knit 2026
WorkshopDesign the future of knitwear! Are you a professional, student or lecturer with a passion for knitting and keen to explore innovative techniques? During the 3D Knit Summer School 2026, you’ll discover the possibilities of 3D WholeGarment knitting and work together to shape the future of textiles.

What can you expect?
In this intensive 5-day summer school (6–10 July 2026), you will be introduced to the basics of 3D WholeGarment knitting. Under the guidance of expert and NewTexEco lab coordinator Leslie Eisinger, you will learn:
- how to program knitting machines
- how to experiment with shape and structure
- working in small teams
- developing a complete piece of clothing
This year’s focus is on circularity and innovation, with an eye on sustainable materials and design strategies.

The programme
You will work in small groups of three participants on a single clothing item. This provides an intensive learning experience centred on knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Together you will follow an intensive and practical programme that takes you step by step through the process of 3D WholeGarment knitting. From your first introduction to a fully finished garment: each day builds on the previous one.
You will start with an introduction to the software and machines, after which you will quickly get to work yourself on programming and developing test swatches. These form the basis for your final design. Halfway through the week, the focus shifts to experimentation and creativity, challenging you to explore new techniques and shapes.
In the final days, you will develop your ideas into a complete garment. You will learn how to bring different components together, optimise them and produce them using 3D knitting technology. The week concludes with the finishing touches to your design and a group presentation, in which you will reflect on the process and the knowledge gained.
